Designed in French Romantic style by Charles Lebourg in France, the monument is decorated with four female statues representing goodness, charity, sobriety and simplicity, and can be found in a selection of other parks around the city.

the Parque Cidade summer residence was built in 1809 and today houses the Museu Histórico da Cidade, or 'City History Museum'. The architecture of the building is neoclassical and eclectic in influence, containing iron railings, balconies and bollards.
