the richness of these coastal zones have encouraged migration of human populations to these regions, to benefit from the richness of the land, and the ecosystems that live their. this is not unique to rio de janeiro state, however, as worldwide, even though coastal regions cover less than 20 percent of the planet's surface, more than 45 percent of the world's human population live in them.
