at a glance

ilha pontuda, the longest island, also has many cliffs, making it popular among climbers, in addition to a navigational beacon at its highest point, and a large bird population. though somewhat less visited due to the rocky shoreline - surrounding depths range from 6 to 18 meters there always snorkelersand scuba divers in the vicinity.

laje das tijucas are the smallest and least visited islets of the tijuca islands, in part due to the distance from shore, in part due to the stronger seas there. made up of laje do magdalena and ilha da barra, these are little more than large rocks, reaching out of the ocean - better suited for fishing than for other sporting activities. depths here range from 6 to 40 meters, but diving is only advisable for the very experienced, as there is no natural protection against strong currents. arrow-back     arrow-forward
