at a glance

a popular island to visit, for a quick city getaway, the small ilha de paquetá, on the north side of the bay is a quaint place, with a bucolic feel. comprising of old colonial-style buildings, and rustic dirt roads, the island can feel a million miles away from the frenzy of the city.

just over 300 square kilometers in size, and located on the other side of rio, the sepetiba bay is not as commercially or touristically important as guanabara bay - however it is a vital area for the fishing industry in the region.

with marine catfish being the most present in sepetiba's waters, nearly one hundred species of fish were catalogued in the bay - including from the ariidae, gerreidae, sciaenidae, carangidae, and sparidae families. one of the most charming aspects of many beaches facing the baía de sepetiba are the many fishermen boats, and the small and often improvised fish markets in the area. arrow-back     arrow-forward
