at a glance

the lagoa de itaipú is approximately 1.2 squared kilometers in size, but since the building of the canal and the occupation of the surrounding lands, it has receded and is drying around the edges and various other morphological, physical, chemical and biological changes have occured since this time.

there has been a recent drive to recover the lagoon, and to restore the ecosystems that once lived in and around the lagoon. this drive has been led by the instituto estadual do ambiente (inea), who have attempted to improve the water flow of the lagoon, and renew the water that is already within, to replace the stagnated and polluted water, and to allow the sustainable regulation of the biological cycle. arrow-back     arrow-forward
