Lagoa da Marapendi (Marapendi Lagoon) is situated in Barra da Tijuca, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. incredibly rich in scenic views, fauna, clear waters and an array of birds and wildlife, it is a space of great tranquility and splendor, offering a serene space for contemplation, away from the stresses of the city.

In the indigenous Tupi tongue 'marapendi' means 'shallow river sea'. the current pollution levels in the lagoon do not allow for bathing or fishing. It is however, highly popular for water sports, such as sailing, windsurfing and canoeing.

The coastal lagoon is connected to the other lakes of Barra da Tijuca - Tijuca, Camorim and Jacarepaguá - by narrow water lanes. The most abundant vegetation in the lagoon is mangroves, of both the red and white variety.
