firstly, the low level of water, has produced a rise in the temperature of the water, destroying much of the natural ecology, secondly, the lack of water has restricted the lagoon from being able to renew its water, causing stagnation, and the loss of ability to regulate its biological cycle, and thirdly, it has led to dry areas around the lagoon, which has resulted in the occupation of the land, thus causing further pollution.

more than just pollution, the occupation of the surrounding area has pushed away many of the rare species of flora and fauna that once lived there, further harming the ecosystems of the region. and, to add to the problems of the lagoon, a lack of decent irrigation, and sewage treatment, has led to the ponds being overcrowded with waste, causing the death of many of the fish within.

approximately 2.6 kilometers in size, the lagoon was once an important source for local fishermen, but with the pollution, and ecological changes to the lagoon, many of them have had to look relocated. this, as well as the destruction of the local environment, has inspired the state to restore the lagoon, and to begin the recovery process.
