located in the west zone of rio, the borders of the park were established in 1974, when it was officially recognized by the state. it is known for being a hub of exotic ecosystems and impressive ecosystem, boasting a rich array of mountains, hills and peaks, which are perfect natural attractions for a host of activities.

due to its size, the park touches a number of different neighborhoods of the city, whilst the mountains and peaks are scattered about each one, with the highest concentration found in the vargem grande neighborhood.

they all vary greatly, each with their own characteristics and points of individuality, some stretch all the way to the clouds, such as the pico da pedra branca, which is the highest peak in rio, whilst others are more modest mounds, such as the 363 meters high morro redondo do cabunguí.
