part of the parque da tijuca, pedra bonita (beautiful rock) is a 696-meter (2283-foot) deforested mountain that was once covered by brazil's atlantic rain forest (mata atlântica).

one of the elements that made this cliff famous in rio and nationally, is the spectacular close-up view of pedra da gávea - another gorgeous seaside monolith.

pedra bonita is a popular hiking and rock-climbing destination, but the mountain is particularly popular with hang gliders and para gliders who jump from here year round. a pupose built ramp at the top of pedra bonita is used by hang gliders from the top and para gliders from underneath and in front.
