morro do corcovado (hunchback mountain) is technically located in the center of town, in the santa teresa neighborhood - however, since access to the mountain is only possible from the zona sul, we included it with the mountains of the south zone of rio. it is the most recognizable summit in the world, though many may not know its name.

it is located in tijuca national park, just west of botafogo and laranjeiras in the heart of rio de janeiro - but what really sets it apart is the 100 foot high statue of cristo redentor (christ the redeemer) with outstretched arms situated on its peak, whose image has become synonymous with rio de janeiro and brazil as a whole.
