the Parque Nacional da Tijuca is a national
park encompassing four distinct and unconnected areas of land
entirely within the city limits of Rio de Janeiro.
These four areas include the
Floresta da Tijuca - the
second largest urban forest in the world, tracing its
modern roots back to the 19th century, at a time when rio was going through a deforestation and replanting period.
also part of the park is the
Serra da Carioca, containing the
corcovado mountainand
the iconic symbol of the city statue of
Christ the Redeemer
