one of the oldest and largest areas of environmental protection, in the state of rio de janeiro, the reserva biológica federal do tinguá is a strict nature reserve that houses some of the most vital features of the region. an area predominantly covered by dense atlantic forest, the reserve is slightly inland from the state's exotic coast, and comprises of a number of biomes, including lower montane rain forest, dense montana, and dense forestry.

spanning an incredible 26, 260 hectares, the reserva biológica federal do tinguá takes up residence in six municipalities across the state, however, it is mainly located in the municipality of nova iguaçu, whilst maintaining a spot in the expansive serra do mar.
