integral to the history of miguel pereira, is the railroad that ran from the city of japeri, to miguel pereira - to honor this historical marvel, and to teach visitors about its impact, miguel pereira opened, in 1987, the museu ferroviário.

filled with photographs, and old objects from the railroad itself, the museum tells the story of the railroad, since the early twentieth century, and pays homage to the importance of the railroad, in the city and in community life.

inaugurated by the railroad, in 1898, was the state of the art, viaduto paulo de frontin, the only curving iron flyover in the world back then, this 82m long 34m high marvel is a truly monumental feat of local engineering - the flyover is an alluring structure, which forms a large arc over the santana river, though nowadays it is used by athletes for canyoneering.
