covering an area that has been preserved, in one way or another, since the eighteenth century, the 36 thousand square meters of the parque da chacrinha are one of rio de janeiro's hidden gems, right in the heart of a glamorous neighborhood - copacabana.

originally an area occupied by military facilities, the lush forestry was relieved of these duties in 1950, with the government opting to use the space as a public park instead.

after suffering periods of neglect later on in the century, the park was eventually restored, in 1985, and fitted with a host of sports facilities, as well as trails to access the morro de são joão.  ● map ● more ●
