the museu da república is located in the catete palace, a restored urban mansion in the catete neighborhood of rio de janeiro.

nicknamed the eagles palace, it was built between 1858 and 1866, and served as the republic presidential palace for 63 years, from 1896 to 1954. the structure was the scene of important political happenings such as declaration of war on germany in 1917, and the axis in 1942.
