the 'cradle of bohemia', otherwise known as lapa, now boasts a staggering amount of bars, pubs, clubs and restaurants on its winding streets, contributing to its reputation of exuberant nightlife.

on the weekends the streets surrounding its most famous landmark, the aqueducto da carioca, are taken over by an overwhelming amount of kiosks and street bars selling carioca street food, fresh caipirinhas, beers, and other drinks to the vast amount of people roaming the streets before deciding to stay there for the night or going to one of the many bars and clubs in the area - this effect is intensified during carnival.
