at a glance

situated on the corner of rua são luiz gonzaga in the district of benfica, in rio's north zone, bar adonis was founded in 1952 and has served fine food and drink ever since - praised for its bolinho bacalhau, feijoada, and cold beer, the bar/restaurant is a favorite of cariocas and visitors alike.

benfica is right next to são cristóvão and was first populated in the 16th century after being utilised for sugarcane production so the area certainly has some historical relevance - it is fairly easy to reach from rio's centro and definitely worth the trip, as bar adonis' portions are famously large.

in the past the bar has even been voted the best in rio, surpassing larger establishments in smarter areas of town - the restaurant's floor is huge and the tables and chairs nicely spread out so large groups are well catered for, as well as couples looking for a bit of intimacy.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
