for extreme pagode fans, every sunday on avenida marechal rondon, near one of the entrances to the favela do morro da matriz, the local community organizes a major pagode party - it is safest for visitors to go accompanied by a local guide when visiting the area.

pôr do santa is a monthly roda de samba in the favela of dona marta, part of a cultural project promoting the community, located at the top of the hill in the praça michael jackson, with vendors offering hot feijoada and cold  beer to enjoy with the live music - the event entrance is free of charge.
