at a glance

across from the morro do vigário, the highest hill on the island, and next to the recreational public area praça dos atobás, this beach is the natural extension of the next beach, praia moema e iracema, beach famous due to a legend in part taking place on praia da imbuca as well.

according to the legend, dating back to the tamoios, the original indigenous tribe on paquetá, iracema was a sacred virgin, destined to the gods, and not to be romanced by any man.

moema was another girl on the island, and curimbatá was her brother, the strongest indian in the tribe.

iracema, moema, and curimbatá were all close friends, and inevitably the strong iracema and the beautiful curimbatá fell in love with each other.     arrow-back      arrow-forward
