located in the sepetiba neighborhood facing sepetiba bay, 40 meters wide, and with and extension of 1700 meters praia de sepetiba (sepetiba's beach) is the largest of the beaches in this part of rio.

the neighborhood is bordered by the santa cruz neighborhood to the north and the guaratiba neighborhood to the east, and is home to about 40,000 residents.

during the colonial era of brazil, the beach served as a port where goods came in to the brazilian capital.
