at a glance

praia dos tamoios is the first beach that can be seen when arriving in paquetá, on the right of the pier.

extending 750 meters, from praça bom jesus to de morro da covanca, this is the island's largest beach - the tamoios were an indigenous tribe that lived on this island, hence the name of the beach.

750 meters long, this beach is home to maria gorda (fat maria), one of the most famous landmarks on the island.

maria gorda is a baobab (adansonia digitata), an african tree that can live hundreds of years and reach a girth of over 20 meters - sacred in many parts of africa, the baobab is one of the most mystical trees on earth.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
