at a glance

blocos during carnival are not always planned and scheduled, some tiny blocos just pop-up out of nowhere around someone singing or walking around with a loud radio - these are great fun!

in addition to the types of blocos commonly known outside rio de janeiro, there is small sub-type that can be classified as a direct descendent of the very first and now extinct entrudos - groups of people parading without a band or musical score.

these very unique type of blocos - if they can be called that - are the bate-bolas - in rio de janeiro bate-bolas, or clovis, are only found in the north and west zones of the city, towards the suburbs.  arrow-back     arrow-forward
