july 20th - friend's day and international friendship day (dia do amigo e internacional da amizade) is a day celebrated in the south american countries of argentina, uruguay, paraguay and of course brazil.

a rather new holiday, it was initiated in the 20th century by enrique ernesto febbraro who, in conjunction with the landing of man on the moon, sent out numerous letters to celebrate that now with the landing all men are united and able to overcome any impossible situation.

it is with this sentiment that this day is, celebrated, and cards and gifts are exchanged among friends.

in brazil the day is also celebrated on the 18th of april as just ''day of the friend' and on the 20th of july as 'international day of the friend,' but with either date, the restaurants, bars, clubs and of course the phones are busy.
