at a glance

On the 4th of November every year Brazilian citizens come together to reflect on the importance of favelas in the history and development of the country - its economy, society and culture.

As well as addressing the invaluable contribution these spaces have made to the social and cultural fabric of the nation, talks, debates and expositions reflect on the continuing difficulties and needs of favela populations - Communities across the city host parties, talks and events to fill the day with all the history and beauty it deserves.

The National Favela Day was decreed in 2006, after considerable campaigning conducted by the Central Única das Favelas - CUFA (United Center of Favelas), based in Rio de Janeiro - The successful campaign included a petition with over 700,000 signatories. arrow-back      arrow-forward
