october 12th - children's day (dia das crianças) is an annual holiday celebrated around the world to honor children. although children's day may occur on different days of the year, the majority of countries recognize it as falling on the 1st of june, with the 22nd of november being proposed by the united nations to be universal children's day.

in brazil, it has been celebrated since the mid-1920s, and today it is celebrated together with the feast of our lady of aparecida (nossa senhora da conceição aparecida), the patron saint of  brazil.

nowadays it is highly commercial and second only to christmas in the amount of spending on toys and other children's items.
