free lectures on art, workshops, and musical performances by nearly a hundred artists result in unique exhibitions of paintings, sculpture, engraving, watercolor, mosaic, furniture, ceramics, photography, drawings, jewelry, plants, contemporary objects, fabrics, fashion, and accessories.

The event includes a gastronomic circuit by the restaurants in the district and the Circuitinho, with art workshops and theater for children and youth.

on october 23rd 1906 brazilian born alberto santos dumont flew 50 meters on his experimental airplane in paris. 

this was the world's first successful flight ever, and led to an award -  rio de janeiro proudly honors him on pilot's day (dia do aviador) with great air shows in zona sul. 

the second major airport in rio de janeiro is named in honor of alberto santos dumont.
