One of the university's best-known courses is the Bachelor of Statistics, which was created in March of 1953, the same year the university was founded - ENCE was the first college dealing in the subject of statistics in Brazil and the whole of Latin America.
The course aims to train students in the art of analyzing statistics, collecting data, planning, and model adjustment with economic and social analysis in mind and it lasts four years.
Based in Rio de Janeiro, the Instituto Militar de Engenharia (IME) was founded in 1699 by the King of Portugal - and although the institute has come an incredibly long way since, it still has not forgotten its roots teaching soldiers in colonial era Brazil.
IME is part of the Departamento de Cięncia e Tecnologia (DCT), which is run by the Brazilian Army.
