at a glance
after experiencing a number of changes, and adaptions, over the years, the carnival began to take its current form, in the early twentieth century, with the introduction of samba to the proceedings - once samba had been added to the party, it wasn't long before the samba schools emerged, with the first competition between them taking place in 1929.

today, the competition between the samba schools, otherwise known as the samba schools parade, is the accumulation of the carnival, bringing together all of the vibrancy of the festival in one huge spectacular - which is where the carnavalescos come in, as the artist directors of the samba school parades, they are a key aspect for the success of the carnival. arrow-back      arrow-forward
