thus, it's not surprising that rio de janeiro is 'becoming latin america's film making capital', attracting herds of foreign directors and producers, as well as providing a fertile platform for a large number of homegrown local talents, in the cinema world. in fact, the city is constantly alive with cinema production, with over 80 foreign productions filmed in rio, in 2011 alone.

rio de janeiro's rise as one of the most important production destinations in the continent, is a fairly recent phenomenon, and is due, in part to the creation of two important production organizations: riofilme and the rio film commission.
