a number of poets who were notable in their achievements - and their works had tangible impact in rio, in brazil, and sometimes the world.

born in 1961 in rio de janeiro, carlito azevedo is a well-known critic, editor of the magazine inimigo rumor, and a contemporary brazilian poet. a carioca from ilha do governador, azevedo studied writing at the federal university of rio de janeiro (ufrj), with a focus on translating french poetry. there he became acquainted with jose lino grunwald, who supported him in his first published work, collapsus linguae in 1991.

this first book won azevedo the prestigious jabuti award, the most important literary prize that exists in brazil. two years later he published as banhistas, followed in 1996 by sob a noite física and versos de circunstância. he has also since published an anthology of his poems written within this decade. arrow-back      arrow-forward
