currency in rio and brazil remained largely unchanged until the introduction of the 'cruzeiro' in 1942, that lasted until 1967 when the 'cruzeiro novo' was introduced.

this 'cruzeiro novo' was used as a temporary step against inflation and lasted until 1970 when the 'cruzeiro' was reintroduced with fewer 'zeros.'

in 1986 the 'cruzado' was adopted., but only lasted until 1989 when the 'cruzado novo' took its place.

in 1990, the 'cruzeiro' was reintroduced and three years later, it was replaced by the 'cruzeiro real', that was only in use for one more year - when it was replaced on july 01, 1994, by today's 'real', as an attempt to reduce inflation.
