at a glance
rio is located in the south atlantic, so the tropical climate keeps the city warm all year round and the beaches never empty - summers, between november and march, are very hot and humid months and temperatures can reach 100 degrees fahrenheit (40 celsius ) or more.

winters are warm and dry, never cold, with some occasional precipitation.  heavy tropical rainstorms happen throughout the year - the main difference between winter and summer months is the duration of the daylight -

during the months between april and june, it is comm on for the ocean to be quite agitated, with waves reaching 4 meters and damaging the promenades - we posted some pictures of high waves in ipanema here.

the instituto nacional de metereologia - inmet  (National Institute of meteorology) provides a wealth of information for all regions of brazil and rio de janeiro state, including Agrometeorology, fire risks, rain maps, satellite imagery, infrared imagery, and statistical databases.
