at a glance

access to the convent and to the church is somewhat hidden and goes via the base of the convent where, through a gate, there is a small tunnel with very small signs indicating access to the complex - at the end of the tunnel, a small elevator takes visitors to the convent, where a ticket can be purchased to visit the complex in whole or in part.

located on rua da carioca, the entrance to the tunnel can be seen on this map, and  the nearest subway station is carioca, that stops just a few meters from the convent.

the mosteiro de são bento do rio de janeiro, or the monastery of são bento do rio de janeiro, is a symbol of great importance, and one of the most impressive works of arts in the city.

located in the convent is the incredible church igreja de nossa senhora de montserrat - the wooden carvings that decorate the church interiors are as impressive as they are unique.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
