at a glance

glória is part of rio de janeiro's zona sul, set in between flamengo and lapa, and bordering catete - the district is named after the church of nossa senhora da glória do outeiro, one of the very first churches built in rio in the xviii century, and among the most important assets of colonial religious architecture of brazil.

until the early xx century, while rio was the capital of brazil, glória was considered to be 'the paris of rio', due to its paris-inspired architecture, and its role as temporary home for ambassadors and other national and international politicians visiting the city.

the mostly middle-class, bayside neighborhood of glória offers a rich history of rio de janeiro, as one of the wealthiest residential neighborhoods in the city during the early 20th century.   arrow-back      arrow-forward
