at a glance

many communities are well-established and others are developing-communities - while this is an important distinction to keep in mind when evaluating elements, climate and insects are factors that can be seen all over.

a common issue with some of the developing-favelas is limited resources for sanitation and environmental hygiene, such as proper drainage of standing, water - reservoirs of water that collect in the warm, humid corridors of these communities serve as prime breeding grounds for unfriendly insects such as mosquitoes, which to this day continue to contribute to the spread of dengue fever throughout the city, state and country.

dengue causes flu-like symptoms and can be lethal in extreme cases - visitors should always prepare for a journey into a favela by applying a generous amount of insect repellent.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
