in a city as large as rio de janeiro, various forms of transportation are a vital aspect of life - as with all modern cities, cars have become a particularly popular mode of transport. 

being one of the world's most intriguing capitals, at the time, rio de janeiro was one of the first places to welcome a fully functioning gasoline-engine automobile - brought to the city in the early years of the twentieth century by local engineer fernando guerra duval, the car was a classic open-top model. 

it did not take long for curious cariocas to get intrigued by the idea of utilizing this form of transportation, with the first cars starting to stream in from abroad shortly after - the first driving tests were conducted in 1906, to begin to regulate the safety of the new craze.

prior to the 1950's, all of the cars within rio de janeiro and greater brazil, were imported from foreign manufacturers - as the country's economic influence grew, so did its desire to manufacture cars internally, with the first car fully developed on brazilian soil, a chevy, produced during the 1950's.
