specifically stated locations where smoking is prohibited include work and study environments, places of religious, cultural, athletic or entertainment activities, condominiums, concert halls, theaters, cinemas, bars, restaurants, nightclubs, food courts, hotels, shopping malls, banks, supermarkets, libraries, museums, public vehicles and government offices - establishments are subject to fines in case of allowance of indoor smoking. 

the programa de controle do tabagismo, or tobacco control program, was put into place by the municipal health secretary of the city of rio de janeiro, and is based on the guidelines of the national program for tobacco control - the program adopts several strategies of action including designating 100 percent smoke-free environments, implementing treatments to quit smoking, and programs aimed at discouraging people, especially children, from starting to smoke.
