the museum of sacred art in angra dos reis is housed in the church of nossa senhora da lapa e boa morte, which dates back to 1752 - located near the bus station, the church was preserved as a cultural heritage site in the 1950s, and functioned only as a place of worship until 1992. 

today the museum houses over 2,000 pieces dating from the seventeenth century to the twentieth, including paintings and sculptures of saints, period clothing and plate ware and objects used in the church - in august, special services are held here to honor the saint for which the church was named.

there is no shortage of points of interest on the secular side of things, either - the paço municipal (city hall) building sits next to nilo peçanha plaza and dates back to the 1800s.
