located in the district of monte alto, massambaba sandbank, praia do sudoeste is an unusual and magnificent landscape - a lakeside beach, the water is salted by the araruama lagoon, and the beach's edge is dotted with casuarinas, shrubs and trees brought in from australia.  

the sand is white and the water is green, clear and pleasantly warm, due to its shallowness -  the beach is ideal for families, for bathing, picnics and bbqs and the high salt content of the water results in quick tanning. access is via the road to figueira (rj-102).

located close to the morro do pontal do atalaia (watchtower hill), and 4kilometers from arraial do cabo, praia brava is just 200 meters long and features fine sand and salt marsh vegetation, typical of the region - the water is blue-green, clear and cold, and with strong waves the beach is considered one of the most dangerous in the area.
