the excursions are guided free and there is also a complimentary shuttle to the meeting points, though there is limited seating - events last about an hour and visitors are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather and bring water and light foods for nourishment - those who wish to participate should register with the maricá registry of tourism.

festa literária, the literary festival of maricá, was established to encourage reading amongst students in municipal schools and to make books more accessible to children and educators. 

the first annual literary festival hosted dozens of exhibitors from leading publishers from all over brazil - entry is free for all and school children receive vouchers to choose books of interest to take home.
