maricá is located only about an hour from rio de janeiro, and it is a smaller very low key fishing community and is absolutely beautiful. high-end lodging will not be found here, as there has never really been a demand for it - instead many reasonably priced inns and guesthouses can be found close to many of the beaches, lagoon and lakes.

the town doesn't see a lot of international tourism so brushing up on some portuguese is never a bad idea before coming in to this community - in terms of eating and nightlife, most establishments can be found in central maricá and itaipuaçu.

tons of seafood can be found and it's about as fresh as it gets. for such a tranquil and calm area there is still much to do. there are many bars to go to and many cheers to be given.
