a series of activities is prepared to celebrate and honor the saint and the people of the community - prayers, masses, and coronations are held as is religious tradition.

on the 27th, the day that honors our lady of grace, fireworks awake citizens at dawn before a rosary in the neighborhood square brings the people together followed by a community breakfast.

later in the day, a traditional procession fills the town streets before a dusk mass. musical performances and other entertainment are also held. the tradition normally gathers around 1,000 people. the festivities close with an auction that helps fund the festivities of the next year.

to celebrate the arrival of the 'flower season,' the people of maricá gather in itaipuaçu for six days of performances from local musicians dedicated to the  festa da primavera.
