the festa da broa or feast of bread in nova friburgo is a call to traditional times where food was made from what was available and cooked in a large stone oven - the festival is held at the end of july and lasts for two days where visitors can come and sample the bread along with other typical food products of the area.

celebrating the traditional corn bread that is made by roasting individual loaves each on a large caeté leaf - the bread was fading from popularity until a few years ago when residents decided to revive the recipe and showcase how it's made in a century old stone oven, which is a collective for the community.

located in a century old house in the state park, the oven is lit by wood and produces about 150 loaves of the bread a month, though that number is increasing along with the popularity of the festival.
