one of the main obstacles in acquiring an appropriate
place was the long lasting law, that prohibited the official
installation of a non-catholic place of worship, as the catholic
church was the official church of the brazil at the time.
once this law was
revoked, plans for a new building, that was fitting to
accommodate the head of
the Presbyterian church, started taking shape. in
1926 reverend mattathias gomes dos santos commissioned the
project of a grandiose building to
architect ascanio viana.
