inaugurated in 1999, the catedral mundial da fe (world cathedral of faith),   which is also known as the templo maior, igreja universal do reino de deus,   or tempo da glória do novo israel, was once the largest temple of its kind in latin america and one of the largest in the world.

inside the cathedral are the headquarters of the universal church of the kingdom of god (uckg), a christian evangelistic faith formed in brazil in 1977 by bishop edir macedo, who was involved in the construction. the building uses woods and stones from israel and was intended, to offer the congregation a place of worship that felt like stepping into israel.
