one of the most visible churches in rio de
janeiro, the imperial irmandade de
nossa senhora da glória
do outeiro, simply called igreja glória do outeiro, sits on top
of a hill clearly visible form the glória neighborhood, home to
the
monument to the fallen of the world war, and the
modern art museum.
originally a small chapel, built
in 1670 by
antónio caminha, it stands in a prominent position, visible by navigators
reaching the bay, and clearly indicating the profile of the city of rio de janeiro.
