in 1973 it
was declared to be a national heritage site by the institute of
historical patrimony and, in 2006, it was elevated to the status
of sanctuary. the small santuário cristo redentor, is accessible
via the back of the pedestal of the statue, and it is open to
the public daily.

weddings and baptisms, under the archdiocese of rio de
janeiro.
