the casa da leitura, seat of proler (national reading incentive) since 1992, is located in the rio de janeiro district of laranjeiras. it is situated in a historic modernist building of the 1920s, replete with balconies and gardens, and provides a pleasant space for visitors.

The Programa Nacional de Incentivo à Leitura - Proler (National Reading Incentive Program) - is a social enhancement project of reading and writing linked to the Fundação Biblioteca Nacional (National Library Foundation) to the and the Ministério da Cultura - MINC (Ministry of Culture) Present throughout Brazil since 1992, Proler, has established itself as an active presence, committed to the democratization of access to reading. 

comprising two libraries, one for children and the other oriented towards adults, the institution is open to the community for reading and research.
