while many come here to see the museum, most simply come to enjoy the views stretching across copacabana beach and the rest of rio are truly spectacular. for those who are looking for a break from sunbathing the fort offers an interesting and educational alternative.

getting there is easy as visitors need only walk to the south end of the beach. from anywhere else in rio de janeiro avenida atlântica and rua francisco otaviano lead right up to the fort.

the interior of the fort is open from tuesday to sunday, 10:00 -17:00, but the outside area remains open until 22:00 so catching the sunset from one of the fabulous vantage points is very much recommended.
