at a glance

located to the west side of rio de janeiro, grumari is a neighborhood past barra da tijuca well known for its brilliant beaches and pure white sands. the region is one of the least populated in the city, due to a large part of grumari being made up of shoreline and a protected environmental zone, much of which is surrounded by the guaratiba and piabas mountains.

grumari's name derives from the language of the indigenous people, who lived in brazil before the portuguese settlers landed - 'curu', 'meaning pebbles' or 'loose stone', combined with 'mari', meaning 'water producing'. arrow-back     arrow-forward
